Sustainability Programs
Recycling programs | Energy Efficiency

Sustainability is one of the core principles of St. Clair Superior Development Corporation. This core principle informs us that consideration must be given to the WHOLE health of our community. To us being sustainable is more than just recycling our waste (which we already do) and helping residents save on gas bills (which we also do). Being sustainable means looking at our operations and community, and finding ways of being more responsible.

In our daily operations, SCSDC is a green organization that is working on being greener. All the staff is responsible for helping improve our performance in this endeavor, and we consider our efforts to be serious. We have also taken on the expert advice of Entrepreneurs for Sustainability (E4S) in order to identify more opportunities for the future. Currently, we recycle our paper, cardboard, plastics and cans. While improvement is always possible, we are already recycling over 65% of our waste today! Not only are we interested in greening our operations, we are also motivated to bring sustainability to the entire neighborhood.

Using the lens of sustainability means that we look at problems in a whole new light. For instance, we are involved in a movement that hopes to turn the problem of vacant and abandoned homes on its head. By carefully dismantling these homes, instead of simply demolishing them, we are hoping to create new markets and good jobs from salvaged building materials. Our greenspace and urban farming initiatives are also examples of how we bring the sustainability message to our stakeholders.
